This is the final project for my computer animation project.

The majority of the semester was spent learning the tools and to practice modeling.

So we only had one animation for this class.

The theme was repetition which I hope can be seen in the movement of the rabbit and the modeling of the box and the carrot.

It is a simple narrative about a simple modeling of a rabbit.

It was to apply our knowledge of the program and create a finished project.

The music was "Storm in a Teacup" by the Chobits Soundtrack.

This will be a collection of videos created during the Fall 2008 semester, excluding the final project.

The final project is currently incomplete, and if time allows, will be re-shot, and re-edited during the summer of 2009.

Interview

For our first assignment we needed to interview someone, anyone, and make it interesting.
The focus was to learn to take and condense and string along dialogue in a convincing way through editing.

I met some ELP (English Language Program) student from South Korea and interviewed them.

The subtitles needs re-working.

The original interview took about 20 minutes.

Color Bars

The only thing we could use was the color bars from Final Cut Pro.
No additional sound or footage.
The most important thing was to make it interesting.

And then we were assigned to do it again after the critique.

I think the purpose was to learn our editing software inside and out and get all the little video effects out of our systems.

This was hard for me. I don't follow with abstract videos very well.

Youtube Assignment - Truth and Fiction
Group project

Chinese Character Corner

The focus of this assignment was to use youtube as a medium. So we would have to deal with the small size of our video, perhaps the low quality, etc.

An additional twist was to incorporate something true and something false.

I think we managed to convincingly and seamlessly incorporate truth and fiction.

My part: The narrator, script writer, researcher, finding some of the images.

Derive

Interpret Dérive however we want to, submit a proposal and create an approved idea.

Based on the article I read, I took inspiration in the idea of wandering.

I spent the whole day in Washington DC and decided to use the footage of the metro.

The song is "Yasmin the Light" by the Explosions in the Sky.

Light Color Texture - Creating Art

The assignment was to make three one minute segments focusing on light, color, and texture (one for each video). The premise for the assignment was to have each student focus on these aspects when taking footage.

With this piece I wanted to take the process of creating art as inspiration and just make one video showing all three themes in the piece.

I have other students working on creating art themselves.

You can see sometimes the camera is not always steady and is in the process of adjusting as well, this was to also include video as a way of creating art.

Illustrating Space:
Personal Space

The theme was to illustrate a space somehow.

I thought of the space between two people: personal space.

I thought of how different it is for every person and the relationships of two people.

In my video, who the people weren't as important because I wanted them to be anyone to be able to relate to them, so I have them virtually faceless the whole time.

It follows one person meeting the next and the next person meeting the next through various situations and in the end circles back to the first person, although that isn't as easy to tell.

The music is "There is No There" by The Books.

Animation Fall 2007 - Spring 2008

Final Tape:
A collection of every project done during the semester.

Animation for the Introduction to Animation class taken Fall 2007.

1. Flipbook - Working on transforming one object to another - 12 frames - MonkeyJam

2. Transformation - Unfinished hand drawn animation... a series of 5 transformations based on a poem (of your choice). - very rough version - MonkeyJam

3. Kendtridge Style Animation - Improvisation - a series of transformations done in charcoal on a single sheet of paper.

4. Bouncing Image - Take an image in Photoshop and animate a bounce - Adobe Photoshop

5. Stop Motion - Anything. I animated magnets. - MonkeyJam

6. Final Project - Anything. "Procrastination" - a students struggle to find an idea.... - MonkeyJam

The whole thing was strung through Final Cut Pro.

Spring 2008

This is just a short clip from an episode of House M.D.

This assignment involved learning and applying our knowledge on how to sync dialogue to the movement of an animated characters mouth.

I used Toon Boom Studio.

For clarification, the character is an onigiri, a Japanese rice ball.

Spring 2008

The project was to take a story of any kind that was not written by us and interpret it in our own way.

I used the "Santoki Song". This is a children's song in Korea.
This was all hand-drawn animation, that was done through the lunchbox system and edited in Final Cut Pro.

Spring/Fall 2008

The project was to create a narrative using a story or plot of our own.

I originally had a completely different storyline but I got inspired by another idea.

I was granted permission to turn this in during the fall semester because I was ill during the finals.

The idea comes from what I went through while I lived far off campus.
I usually left to go home late at night and would walk around campus that was lit with orange street lights. I loved the idea of being accompanied by a shadow that changed perspective and form.

I hope to come back to this and make it better and longer. It was a bit rushed.
I hope to make is cleaner as well.

Done through Toon Boom Studio with a Waccom tablet.

Boats and Birds

Fall 2007

This is a music video I made for the song Boads and Birds by the group Gregory and the Hawk.

The assignment was called, "Edit to the Beat of Sound".
We had to take any sort of sound segment (music or dialogue or whatever) and create a video for it (rather than take footage and adding sound during editing).

It was the first video I made that was created completely by myself.

I don't have any permission to use the music (but this is student work and if I do get contacted by the creators of the song, I do hope they do grant permission and if not I will take this down).

I was enchanted by this song and I could see these images of what I imagined to accompany the lyrics. I had wonderful friends to assist me through transportation and encouragement to acting and moving props.

I am eternally grateful.

I would like to reshoot this one day, or re-edit what's left of the footage, but I am extremely proud of what came out of it.

I created the stage with cardboard, acrylic paint, dowels, thread, Popsicle sticks, red clothe napkins from Target, and lots of hot glue.
The backdrops were canvas boards I painted with acrylics.
The props were made with Popsicle sticks, acrylic paint, bristol paper, etc.
The stars were origami stars strung through twisted wire.

Edited with Video Vegas and Adobe Premier.

Previous projects included:

Recreate a movie scene - group project::
Recreate all the actions, camera shots, dialogue, etc as accurately as possible
We did a scene in Forrest Gump when he finds out he's a daddy.

Charette - group project::
Create a work in a week that represents the theme "shelter"
I "documented" with a video camera as my group members ran around encased in bubble wrap.

Later project::

Final Project - solo project::
I decided to create a Real World-esque fictional documentary on roommates who are having trouble living together.

Due to the nature of these projects (they involve multiple people scene in the footage they do not want released to the internet public). I cannot show these works.

Hello internet wanderers- welcome to my portfolio of video and animation goods.
I am currently a Junior at VCU.
I major in Kinetic Imaging (which is 2D and 3D animation, and video and audio editing).
Everything I do will be uploaded onto youtube and then posted here.
So until everything is up and running, this is in progress.
I will upload chronologically, I hope, and you'll get to see my works get better over time!
